“Let everything
that has breath praise the Lord!” ~ Psalm 150
The primary function of our worship arts
ministries is to serve our Sunday morning worship
services. We strive to incorporate music, drama,
and technology to bless the heart of God and encourage
His people.
Below are a few of the ministries included
in the Worship Arts ministry:
Praise
Band
The praise band is the core group of musicians for our
worship services. This team consists of a full rhythm
section including bass, drums, piano, acoustic guitar,
and electric guitar as well as other wind and string
instruments. This is mainly a guitar-driven ensemble
although all of the members play significant roles as
leaders.
Vocal Team
Our vocal teams use two male and two female singers
each Sunday morning. We currently use two alternating
vocal teams which rotate weekly. These singers assist
in leading our worship as well as providing special
music from time to time.
Special Music
Often music can convey messages to people in a way that
the spoken word cannot. We like to use volunteers from
the vocal teams or the congregation to sing specially
selected music that relates to the theme or message
of the service. Much of the time these vocal solos will
be accompanied by part or all of the praise band.
Technical
Team
Volunteers on this team assist the worship ministries
by running sound, multimedia, or lights during the services.
These volunteers assist every aspect of the service
from the music to the sermon. We currently use four
technical teams which serve once a month. While these
volunteers might not be “up front” leaders,
they play a very significant role in making our services
successful.
Drama Team
Much like special music, we incorporate dramas into
our services to help communicate a specific theme or
message. Our drama teams have performed everything from
humorous and serious dramas to “readers theatre”
style dramas, many of them written by our own volunteers.
Getting Involved
We like to get people involved in our worship arts ministries
in a gift-based manner. Any time God has specifically
gifted a person with talent in a particular field, we
love to see that individual get connected to one of
our ministries.
For our praise and vocal team ministries,
we require an audition and a one to two-month shadowing
process. This process is not meant to be intimidating
to volunteers but rather to help us evaluate how new
volunteers will fit interpersonally and spiritually
with these teams. There is also the ability to serve
as an alternate for either of these two teams.
Volunteers in our technical ministries
are evaluated based on their experience and interest
and are asked to serve a minimum of one year. Volunteers
in our special music and drama ministries are also evaluated
based on their experience and interest and are used
on an “as needed” basis due to the nature
of these teams. Because the worship arts ministries
play such a visible role in the church from week to
week, we see a need to make sure that new volunteers
have lifestyles that are honoring to God and our body
of believers.
